<p class="texto">A exploração de madeira foi suspensa em 8.400 hectares de bosque, que abrigam 106 "núcleos de coalas", conforme anúncio do governo estadual.</p>
<p class="texto">Rica em marsupiais, a área fará parte de um Parque Nacional do Grande Coala de 315 mil hectares na costa norte e "salvará os coalas da extinção no estado".</p>
<p class="texto">O diretor-executivo do Conselho de Conservação da Natureza, Brad Smith, classificou a zona como "o mais importante hábitat de <a href="/app/noticia/ciencia-e-saude/2016/09/19/interna_ciencia_saude,549279/orfao-bebe-coala-australiano-abraca-pelucia-quando-sente-falta-da-mae.shtml">coalas</a> do mundo".</p>
<p class="texto">"Esta decisão também é um reconhecimento de que o corte (de árvores) tem um impacto devastador sobre os coalas e a biodiversidade", acrescentou.</p>
<p class="texto">O porta-voz da ONG WWF-Austrália, Stuart Blanch, disse que o número de coalas em Nova Gales do Sul sofreu uma queda drástica de mais de 50% entre 2000 e 2020, devido ao desmatamento, à seca e aos incêndios florestais.</p>
<p class="texto">A medida do governo "é uma oportunidade, se quisermos salvar os coalas da extinção neste século. Precisamos de novas áreas protegidas em massa que cubram milhões de hectares de bosque", frisou Blanch.</p>

O estado de Nova Gales do Sul, o mais populoso da Austrália , anunciou nesta terça-feira (12/9) a proibição do corte de árvores em um bosque povoado por coalas, com o objetivo de proteger a população local da extinção.
A exploração de madeira foi suspensa em 8.400 hectares de bosque, que abrigam 106 "núcleos de coalas", conforme anúncio do governo estadual.
Rica em marsupiais, a área fará parte de um Parque Nacional do Grande Coala de 315 mil hectares na costa norte e "salvará os coalas da extinção no estado".
O diretor-executivo do Conselho de Conservação da Natureza, Brad Smith, classificou a zona como "o mais importante hábitat de coalas do mundo".
"Esta decisão também é um reconhecimento de que o corte (de árvores) tem um impacto devastador sobre os coalas e a biodiversidade", acrescentou.
O porta-voz da ONG WWF-Austrália, Stuart Blanch, disse que o número de coalas em Nova Gales do Sul sofreu uma queda drástica de mais de 50% entre 2000 e 2020, devido ao desmatamento, à seca e aos incêndios florestais.
A medida do governo "é uma oportunidade, se quisermos salvar os coalas da extinção neste século. Precisamos de novas áreas protegidas em massa que cubram milhões de hectares de bosque", frisou Blanch.
