<p class="texto">Um novo estudo feito por pesquisadores da Universidade da Califórnia, em Los Angeles (UCLA), analisou os diferentes tipos de expressões faciais dos gatos para se comunicarem entre si.</p>
<p class="texto">A equipe responsável pelo estudo registrou 276 expressões diferentes — os chimpanzés, em comparação, têm cerca de 357.</p>
<p class="texto">Os pesquisadores também descobriram que os gatos têm algumas expressões em comum com os humanos, e que podem ter sido aprendidas ao longo dos 10.000 anos de convivência conosco.</p>

<p class="texto">Lauren, então, analisou as imagens com a ajuda de Brittany Florkiewicz, uma psicóloga evolucionista que estuda emoções e comportamentos de certas espécies animais.</p>

<p class="texto">Cada uma era composta pela mistura de quatro a 26 movimentos faciais únicos — boca aberta, pupilas abertas ou fechadas, piscadas, lambidas no nariz, movimentos dos bigodes e posições das orelhas.</p>
<p class="texto">Em comparação, os humanos têm cerca de 44 movimentos faciais únicos e os cães, 27. O total de expressões de ambos, porém, não é conhecido.</p>
<p class="texto">Das expressões faciais gravadas, cerca de 45% foram consideradas amigáveis e 37% eram mais agressivas ou raivosas, sendo os 18% restantes uma mistura não muito clara das duas.</p>

Um novo estudo feito por pesquisadores da Universidade da Califórnia, em Los Angeles (UCLA), analisou os diferentes tipos de expressões faciais dos gatos para se comunicarem entre si.
A equipe responsável pelo estudo registrou 276 expressões diferentes — os chimpanzés, em comparação, têm cerca de 357.
Os pesquisadores também descobriram que os gatos têm algumas expressões em comum com os humanos, e que podem ter sido aprendidas ao longo dos 10.000 anos de convivência conosco.

Durante os meses de agosto e junho, a cientista Lauren Scott visitou um café beneficente para gatos na Califórnia e filmou cerca de 194 minutos de expressões faciais dos felinos — especialmente as que eram dirigidas a outros animais da mesma espécie.
Lauren, então, analisou as imagens com a ajuda de Brittany Florkiewicz, uma psicóloga evolucionista que estuda emoções e comportamentos de certas espécies animais.

Cada uma era composta pela mistura de quatro a 26 movimentos faciais únicos — boca aberta, pupilas abertas ou fechadas, piscadas, lambidas no nariz, movimentos dos bigodes e posições das orelhas.
Em comparação, os humanos têm cerca de 44 movimentos faciais únicos e os cães, 27. O total de expressões de ambos, porém, não é conhecido.
Das expressões faciais gravadas, cerca de 45% foram consideradas amigáveis e 37% eram mais agressivas ou raivosas, sendo os 18% restantes uma mistura não muito clara das duas.

Algumas das expressões faciais amigáveis dos gatos — em que a boca era puxada para trás e a mandíbula aberta para formar um sorriso ou gargalhada — eram semelhantes à "cara de brincadeira" feita por pessoas, cães, macacos e outros animais.
Os pesquisadores ainda não sabem exatamente o que os gatos tentavam dizer uns aos outros ao utilizarem as diferentes expressões faciais registradas, mas esperam que o estudo possa ajudar donos de animais de estimação e os abrigos a cuidar e entender melhor especialmente as relações com outros gatos.
